It is not hard to search for a person or their affiliated groups , even if you are not up on your 'google-fu'.
The simplest way is to type in the person's site name on a search engine. To make it more exact, use 'force' words. This is simply done by putting marks around the name or site you are searching. For instance "Fred Fascist" U.K..
Also, if the person has given a group name, apply the same search technique. Remember to use a selection of terms, such as'Fred Fascist and Aryan groups', or 'Fred Fascist and Pagan groups'. People frequently like to stick with either the same site name or one similar. For instance, the 'DoF' tend to use names from their 'Book'. If it looks familiar, try it.
If you get a good lead, use a 'whois' or 'IP lookup' programme and get their IP. 'Sam Spade' and 'Geek Tools' are too good sites for this. Once you have their IP, look for matching ones ( again, advanced searches in many search engines including google will give you those links).
Also, if they 'know' you are searching, keep checking your log files ( these are the files that show who has been to your computer. )If you have a router, just log in and check it - write down the site IP and see if a matching one has been trying to gain entry into your computer. That IS illegal and can be reported. Start with reporting it to your server. If you plan on 'deep searching' ( I would not recommend this unless you know how to do it), use a proxy server. Always. Usually, this is not necessary as you only want to find out who you are dealing with. By the way, if the poster comes back at you with ' you have no right to violate my privacy!" - Ignore it. If they put the info. out there - it's yours for the using. If they start to be a pain in the arse, report them to their server, or to the data base they are using ( Arin, etc - they always have an abuse line, but be prepared to wait a loooonnng time). Most of these people use bogus IP's or insert hidden code into their addresses anyway.
If you would like to find links to the group, go to google. On the right you will see 'advanced search'. Look down the page and you will see a box which says "Find pages that link to this page". Type in the groups name (URL) and if there are links, they will come up. Same with IP's.
'Site hop'. Follow the links from sites to other links given, then use the same search techniques with them.
A good source for groups that try and disappear is ' The Internet Archive'. Use their 'Way Back Machine' with the URL of the site you are searching and if you may find previous pages from their site as well as links.
Remember that difference in spelling will return different results. If you are searching the U.K., use U.K. spellings.
Check out 'hate group', 'Neo-Nazi' and 'Fascist' group lists . Specify a particular country if that is the one you are interested in.You may find the group you are searching for on there. If you have proof they are not who they pretend to be, REPORT THEM. I reported the DoF to 'religious tolerance' and they kept updating their reports on DoF. Good on them! They have also been reported to other authorities. Again, do NOT be afraid of 'libel' charges. I've NEVER seen this happen in 3 years working cyber-forensics. Besides, if it's a mistake, no harm , no foul unless it can be proved otherwise. That is why one should do as much searching as possible to at least show the ground you have covered and why you thought they should be reported.
Many of these groups are constantly monitored by authorities fearful of the violence they incite. Rest assured there are more cops on 'Stormfront' and places like than you or they can imagine. By the way, they know they are watched. However, most people are fearful of doing anything about them.
Please! Do not be afraid to investigate and report these people. DO NOT JOIN THEIR SITES NOR ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE WITH THEM IN AN ANTAGONISTIC FASHION. These aren't 'pagan forums' or the 'Methodist Ladies Sewing Circle'. You must keep your own protection in mind at all times. DO NOT give your real name, address, phone number or any personal details, nor taunt them. They will take up your 'dare'.
Having said that, most computers now have good protection and after all, one is free to have a look-see anywhere on an open forum.
That's your basic 'starter kit'. Please ask if you need more info.
Oh, and the police and such are NOT your enemies. Don't be afraid to report something that makes you uneasy. The more reports they have, the better. A lot of people are afraid to go to the authorities in case they are a member of the 'Lenin-Trotsky' society or something. The cops don't give a damn. They are only trying to prevent harm from coming to people. The people I work with know I am a pagan , and some of the people there are strange enough ;D.
